General Motors is recalling 1.5 million vehicles in the wake of reports that at least five have caught on fire thanks to a problem with their heated windshield washer system. GM has already launched a recall over the system, which heats up the vehicles' wiper fluid, before, but in light of the new reports it's concluded that its previous fix didn't work. It now plans to just remove the feature, and pay customers $100 in exchange. "The number of incidents is very small compared with the number of vehicles on the road," the company said in a statement, but "we want our customers to have complete peace of mind."

The recall affects the 2006-2009 model year Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2; the 2008-2009 model year Buick Enclave and Cadillac CTS; the 2007-2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Saturn Outlook and the 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse.
